Me

The Artist

Hello, Welcome to my Pet Portrait Blog. First I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised just outside of Buffalo NY. I am now living in Atlanta GA. My husband and I have two beautiful daughters, 4 Shih Tzu's and a Great Dane. Life is good! Growing up we always had a dog and sometimes other little critters. I was lucky to have parents that loved animals as much as I did. As a little girl I loved to draw and color. I would sit for hours with my friends and draw different things and we would have contests. Later when I moved to GA and after I married and had children I got into the collectibles/antique business. I enjoyed that for 15 years.I started painting on furniture, clothes, glass and old windows. Recycling the old windows and furniture into something whimsy was a big hit. My customers would have me paint windows to hang on their front porches, in their gardens, and even in their houses. That was the beginning of painting murals at home, churches and store fronts. Again people were loving the whimsical style I had. From there I went to a few art classes and loved what I was learning. I was surprised to find that my passion in painting was not landscape, still life or people portraits. My favorite was to paint animals. Maybe because I love animals and I can connect with them. Again, friends and family were enjoying my paintings and soon I was getting jobs to paint peoples pets for gifts. So here I am and loving it.

ONE BEAUTIFUL COLLIE

This portrait I just finished was a lot of fun painting. I don't get many Collies. As a matter of fact I don't really see them around. When I was young it seemed that it was a more popular dog. I know you need to groom them daily but its worth it because they are  beautiful dogs.

Dominic and Stone

These handsome guys are true buddies. Dominic the Dane is mine and Stone the English Cream Golden is my daughters. You can see the picture on the left Stone was a bit smaller and Dominic had less gray. Stone just turned 1 in July and Dominic's birthday is Aug.31th and he will be 7. he is pretty good keeping up with Stone for a while and then he rather be in another room till he rests up. Dominic as you know has 4 Shih Tzu to deal with on a daily bases but is a good boy with them. You can see Scooter in the background. She love Dominic and is always getting in his face and giving him kisses.

While searching the net

I was just playing around one day and searching different things on the net and I found these. I can remember everyone I painted and the days they were taken. It is such a wonderful feeling when you type in something in on Google and something about yourself shows up. I guess it could be a bad thing too!!!! It's interesting how I thought I was just a local artist and I've gotten commissions from different states. Got to love the internet for that reason and word of mouth helps too. This has been a busy year for me and I am sure it will continue more toward the holidays. That's okay by me. I love to paint and I love to make people smile.

It has been a bit busy around here.

All these sweet pups have been keeping me busy lately. I love it and I love to see the smile of my customers when they receive their portraits

Nothing better than a clean studio

I couldn't stand it any longer I had to clean, organize and decorate one of my favorite rooms in my house.  I can't concentrate on painting unless my house is straight. It makes painting so much more fun. I am ready to roll.

Getting older but still Handsome

My handsome boy is showing his age. Dominic is my Mr Big. Have you ever seen Sex in the City? His nick name is Mr Big from that show.  Dominic was my daughters dog but when she moved she wasn't able to take him. My husband wasn't to happy about that since we have 4 Shih Tzus. NOW, he wouldn't let anyone take him. Dominic has been such a great  dog. He is so sweet and loves my 4 other pups. He is such a wonderful guard dog too. As sweet as he is not many people will come up our driveway because of his size and his bark. My husbands office is in our house so we have FedX and UPS always coming to drop packages off. They make sure before they get out of the truck to see if the coast is clear. Of course I don't blame them but if they got to know him they would see how sweet he is.  They would get to enjoy the big lean of the Dane. Danes are known for leaning on you and they also think they are lap dogs. Big babies that's all they are. Dominic carries his bed and blanket around. We have a bed upstairs which is a crib mattress. Downstairs he has a big pillow dog bed that he takes from the kitchen to the family room depending on where we all are.  He loves to be around us. The only furniture he ever gets on is my daughters bed. He loves it cause he can lay there and look out the front window. Our house can get a bit noisy as you can imagine with 5 dogs. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Happy New Year

This year I am going to be more productive with my Blog. I have been busy with my paintings but haven't taken the time to post. This is going to change. It seems I've posted more on Facebook which   because I am on it everyday. If you have a Facebook you can find me there also. My business has gotten most of its advertising from word of mouth along with Facebook and I have a sign on my car. I also have portraits hanging in the local Vet office. like always Christmas is a busy time for me and sadly to say many of my commissions are of pets that have passed away. Even with that, the owners are so happy to have that beautiful memory and such a thoughtful gift.
Looking at other Pet Portrait Artists is so mind blowing to see how talented people can be. It gives me so much inspiration to see their talent. It's also amazing to see the different styles in painting. This is what makes it fun. I believe you need to find the right Artist that fits your personality and what makes you happy. Some have the true to life style, some the cartoon look, there are many unique styles of painting animals. I feel like my style would fall under the category of true to life with a touch of whimsy. Not only do we have our own style but we use different mediums and tools. You just have to find what artist and style fits for you.
I would love to hear from you if you are interested in a painting. I am also looking forward to  meeting more Artist and Bloggers.  Have a wonderful 2016 and I look forward to sharing my talent with you all.
