Me

The Artist

Hello, Welcome to my Pet Portrait Blog. First I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised just outside of Buffalo NY. I am now living in Atlanta GA. My husband and I have two beautiful daughters, 4 Shih Tzu's and a Great Dane. Life is good! Growing up we always had a dog and sometimes other little critters. I was lucky to have parents that loved animals as much as I did. As a little girl I loved to draw and color. I would sit for hours with my friends and draw different things and we would have contests. Later when I moved to GA and after I married and had children I got into the collectibles/antique business. I enjoyed that for 15 years.I started painting on furniture, clothes, glass and old windows. Recycling the old windows and furniture into something whimsy was a big hit. My customers would have me paint windows to hang on their front porches, in their gardens, and even in their houses. That was the beginning of painting murals at home, churches and store fronts. Again people were loving the whimsical style I had. From there I went to a few art classes and loved what I was learning. I was surprised to find that my passion in painting was not landscape, still life or people portraits. My favorite was to paint animals. Maybe because I love animals and I can connect with them. Again, friends and family were enjoying my paintings and soon I was getting jobs to paint peoples pets for gifts. So here I am and loving it.

More custom orders for Christmas

I am having so much fun this Christmas season painting such beautiful Dogs and Cats for pet lovers to give as gifts. Don't forget that it doesn't have to be Christmas to order a portrait for a gift. You can just treat yourself and there are always Birthdays, Anniversaries, or even of a loved pet that has passed away. This is such a wonderful way to make someone smile.

An Inspirational New Friend of Mine

A DOG’S LIFE DIET

Ellen Tomy is a portrait painter turned writer after watching the health of her dogs decline. Ellen launched an intense study of dogs' nutrition focusing on the work of Dr. Robert O. Young, who brought light to the body pH.  Dr. Young’s pH Miracle program played a prominent role in her research and development of a total diet plan for dogs. She applied what she had learned about nutrition for people, along with her findings on dogs’ health, to her own dogs’ diet. After seeing the positive results in her two Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Scarlett and Katie, Ellen turned to other friends’ pets in crises, as well as rescue dogs in awful conditions with similar outcome. The results were so overwhelming that she wrote a book, A Dog’s Life Diet, to help other dog lovers concerned about the health of their dogs. Ellen’s hope is that others who love these precious friends will be able to provide them with a healthier and happier life.

Rock' N Rib Fest Lawrenceville Ga

What a GREAT time at the Rock N Rib Fest. I couldn't believe all the people that came. I met a lot of animal lovers and saw many dogs. I wish I took more pictures but it seemed I was always busy talking to people about my paintings. It was a bit too windy which made it a bit chilly but other than that is was a great time.

Liburn Patch write up from the 4th of July.

Dominic, a 22 month old, 160 pound Great Dane made Main Street look small. I have always had a fantasy about owning a Great Dane, but had never seen one in person. Dominic belongs to Hilary Kidd. With Hilary was her mother, a friend of mine, Becky Kidd, a pet portrait artist that had an art opening at the shop earlier this year, and Grandma Dolly Muchow. Becky brought Zoe, her 8 year old Shih Tzu, with her. Talk about extremes. From the largest dog I have seen to one of the smallest! You have to see Dominic in person to understand the size and the manners of this huge dog. I was very impressed!
Thanks to Barbara Barth the owner of The Little Shop of Arts and Antiques in Lilburn and also an author and dog lover for writing about us in the Lilburn Patch. . You need to visit her. She always has something going on at her shop.  Local  Artist, Authors, Photographers even small bands have been guests at her shop.  Come to Main Street Lilburn and visit and also Check out Barbara's website.   www.thelittleshopofartsandantiques.com

Is everyone enjoying their summer so far!

I know Dominic and Scooter are enjoying it so far. Dominic kept digging in the yard to find that cool dirt so we bought him his own swimming pool. Doesn't he look happy? He loves bobbing for golf balls in it too.
I hope you enjoy my new slide shows I just added. I am still trying to learn this whole blogging thing. It helps to have smart daughters to help. So be patient with me. I also add on the side bar my painted place mats for your pets. They are wonderful for the spills. You just need to wipe it with a damp cloth. Better than having a rug down that you have to keep throwing in the wash. Price differ with size and detail. You can have your pets name painted on it also. Great gift for someone who just got a puppy. Enjoy your summer and keep checking back for more painting. If you are interested in a pet portrait or place mat you can email me at  bwhimsy56@yahoo.com.
